After taking a year to refine his sound, Canberra rapper Kirklandd has returned with his new single, ‘Impulse’, taking out triple j Unearthed’s Groovin the Moo competition in his hometown and receiving a nod from his earliest musical inspiration, Lupe Fiasco.
‘Impulse’ affirms Kirklandd’s distinct 90s-inspired flow and ear for contemporary production. A former cello player, Kirklandd possesses a love for live instrumentation that shines through in his music, creating a unique sound with producer Cam Bluff and engineer Kay Ansah.
Following his 6-date headline tour for ‘Impulse’ and performances with Boo Seeka, Arno Faraji, Seth Sentry and Dylan Joel, Kirklandd has quickly garnered a reputation for his intricate, energetic live-drum set.
While leading up to his next release, Kirklandd continues his role as the Australian artist ambassador for Global Citizen, alongside fellow ambassadors Jay Z, Coldplay and Rihanna. Through their partnership, he hopes to spark conversation around issues of mental health and anxiety, themes that will be explored in his upcoming anthemic follow-up single to ‘Impulse’.
